Name: Elaine Osier
Age: 16
Date of Birth: 09/09
Birthplace: Castelia City, Unova
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual
Trainer Class: Battler
Face Claim: Charlotte Dunois, Infinite Stratos
Appearance: Image ReferenceStanding at only five feet and five inches tall, Elaine measures in far shorter than most of her peers. Even so, she tries to make the best of her height deficit. The lithe and athletic build she gained through school gymnastics along with her short stature allow for impressive feats of agility and acrobatics. The only thing that really slows the girl down would be her above average bust size. The young trainer's golden blonde hair reaches just down to her waist when let down. However, it is usually tied in a loose ponytail that makes it look a few inches shorter than it actually is. The darker color of her amethyst-violet eyes offset her bright hair. A thin faded scar from an accident during her childhood remains on the top of her left wrist and serves as the only blemish on her otherwise unmarred body.
Elaine's wardrobe mostly consists of white, red, yellow and black clothing. On the road, she can most often be seen wearing a black t-shirt and a white jacket with red accents. A thicker winter coat replaces the jacket in colder environments, though the color scheme and design remains the same. Her lower attire usually consists of either durable jeans or black hiking pants along with a pair of black boots. Regardless of her attire, a silver pendant depicting a Mew perched atop a zircon stone is nearly always hanging from her neck. The piece holds a deep sentimental value for Elaine and while it has little monetary value, she often keeps it hidden beneath her clothes to help prevent theft.
Personality:Even from first impressions, it isn't difficult to determine that Elaine leans towards an introverted and distant nature. Quiet and reserved, her soft spoken words are easily drowned out by noisier environments and she doesn't like to raise her voice more than she has to. It comes as no surprise that the young woman holds an aversion to the louder and rowdier crowds. She enjoys quieter settings where she can relax and lose herself in her thoughts or studies much more and the company of smaller groups of friends. This doesn't mean she's anti-social though. She remains perfectly capable of mingling with others when she needs to and isn't necessarily uncomfortable in large crowds. She just happens to be a bit shy.
Those who get to know her a bit better find an affable and kind character, often described by her peers as pleasant and easy to get along with. Both perceptive and and insightful, the trainer tries to keep an open mind and will often try to take a position of understanding over choosing a side. She is also very level-headed and calm, capable of staying composed even during intense, stressful and even chaotic situations. This all can make her appear very laid back, tolerant and helpful. Yet, even despite her empathy for others, her introversion can lead her to becoming grumpy and impatient at times. She has little tolerance for hotheadedness and hates it when people are a little too pushy towards her. She has a tendency to grow distant, blunt and cold when she's in a bad mood even if her intention isn't really to be mean to others.
Yet, everyone has their demons and growing up under an oppressive parent is well known for producing a few. The exceedingly high expectations that Elaine's mother thrust upon her have fostered a strong fear of failure in her. Even after leaving home, she still finds herself working diligently to make sure that she doesn't let either herself or her friends down. She is prone to becoming annoyed at herself, short-tempered and sometimes even depressed and self-loathing if she believes that she isn't performing as well as expected. Branching from this is a strong habit of stoicism. Her tendency to bottle up and hide all of her worries, doubts and fears stems from her fears of burdening or disappointing others. She rarely ever confides in anyone even if it's plain as day that something is bothering her, preferring to deal with her anxiety and problems away from the prying eyes of others while putting on a strong face for others.
Even despite these fears though, Elaine strives to finally forge her own path; a life led by her own decisions, goals and idealism rather than by the expectations of her family. How could she be considered her own person otherwise?
History:Elaine is the first of two children born of the romance between a couple of physicians living in Castelia City. Her mother owned a small but busy clinic on the outskirts of the city, often dealing with construction workers, geologists and their Pokémon that were injured in the ruins on route 4. Her diligence and mastery in her work garnered her much respect from both her patients and peers. Her father was a similarly skilled physician working in Kalos' Lumiose City. Unlike his stricter and more diligent bride though, he was also a Pokémon trainer and spent much of his free time battling passing trainers. The two met and fell in love at a medical conference held in Lumiose and it wasn't long before they were happily married and living together in Castelia. Their eldest daughter was born only a year later. Her younger sister was born only a year and a half after she was.
The young baby's early childhood was fairly normal despite her busy family. The two sisters were normally left in the care of a babysitter for a majority of the day while their parents were busy with their work. The most time they ever really spent with their parents was a few hours during the evening or on their lunch breaks. Even those hours were often cut short by urgent calls or cases. While their father made attempts to spend more time with their children, their mother spent much more time focusing on her work than her family. Nevertheless, both of their parents were quite loving and doting upon their children during the short amounts of time they had together.
It was during these early years of her life that Elaine took a keen interest in training Pokémon. Her regular babysitter, who was a friend of her fathers, also happened to be a Pokémon trainer. Day after day, she would let the children play with her smaller and more harmless Pokémon while regaling them with tales of her past travels before settling down. Her father also had a hand in influencing his child as well. He would watch nightly league matches on television at home or battle other trainers to entertain his children on his day off. The elder sister clung tightly to these experiences and eventually resolved to start her own adventure when she was old enough.
However, as they grew older and began school, their mother began to impose a stricter lifestyle on her children. A good chunk of the free time they used to have was suddenly taken up by studying and chores around the clinic. Elaine seemed to take the brunt of her mother's focus though. For the next handful of years, the young girl was pushed hard to meet her mother's expectations. What little free time she would have had after her usual studies and duties were spent learning the basics of medicine for both humans and Pokémon. She was expected to do more around the clinic than her sister and anything below top notch grades were unacceptable. While difficult, the young girl held out hope that she would be able to obtain a Pokemon and become a trainer later if she met her mother's expectations.
When Elaine finally turned eleven, she brought up the idea of obtaining her first Pokémon to her parents. Her mother refused, deeming that a pet was a waste of time and that becoming a physician and inheriting the clinic was a better future for her. Their father protested, stating that she could still study and work hard even if she had a Pokémon. He was unable to persuade his wife and he ended up caving after a lengthy argument. The rejection hit their child hard and formed the tension between daughter and mother that would persist for years to come.
Their daughter's life took a steep downturn for some time after that day. Without a Pokémon of her own, forced to study and with woefully little free time, she became a popular target for the bullies at her school. She became the bookworm and nerd that was nearly always left out of the cliques and playground activities that formed in school. Her father and the few friends she did make did much to alleviate her stress with their emotional support. Her mother, however, remained more distant and focused on her job. Even so, none of this was allowed to affect her studies and grades. She quickly rose to become an honor's student but it was clear that such a driven routine was having a negative effect on her.
In the years leading up to secondary school, the Osier's oldest child grew stoic and distant towards her family. The tension between she and her mother never wavered. It even spilled over a bit at times, threatening her relationships with her father, sister and friends as well. In an attempt to win respite for his daughter, her father suggested that she be sent to study overseas in the Kalos region. It surprisingly did not take much to convince her mother; the only stipulation was that she stay away from the Pokémon gym and focus on her studies.
Within the week that followed, Elaine found herself walking into what she thought of as a better life. For the first time in years, she was able to spend more of her free time with her friends and fill her hours with her own interests and hobbies. She joined the school's gymnastics team and began studying subjects that interested her as much or more than the medical studies her mother had forced upon her. Her knowledge and diligence in her studies and activities gained her the respect of her professors and friends rather than being used to bully her. Her time spent at the foreign academy and the freedom that came with it quickly became preferred over her life back home.
Best of all, with the help of old trainer friends of her father's, she was able to defy her mother. On the behest of her father, they agreed to begin teacher her about Pokémon training. A few times a week, the young woman would visit Lumiose's gym and lab to learn more about her lifelong dream. Through watching trainers battle and challenge the gym, she was able to learn both the basics and some other nuances of battling and training. On the rare occasion, she was allowed to battle with rental Pokémon or participate in more practical exercises to help her learn. Her studies and the rules of her school prevented her from having her own Pokémon but she greatly enjoyed being able to learn and experience the taste of her ultimate goal of becoming a trainer.
Fast forward to a few months after her sixteenth birthday and Elaine had come to enjoy her life at the academy. Her friends had begun to comment on how she was happier than when she first arrived, though still reserved and quiet. Unfortunately, reality came crashing down sooner than she would have liked. One day, her mother, father and sister visited out of the blue and revealed that she was being withdrawn from the school. Her mother was livid, having learned that her daughter had broken her word and was visiting the Lumiose gym instead of studying or working. She did not approve of some of the Pokémon oriented subjects that her child was studying at school either.
This announcement incited an argument between mother and daughter. The former scolded her daughter harshly, telling her to appreciate the work and effort that she had put into raising her daughter and ensuring her a healthy future. The latter responded with some choice and harsh words that had long been bottled up. Old bitter and aggrieved emotions that had been long been hidden beneath a tolerant facade finally boiled over. The exchange ended with her mother slapping her across the face for such an insolent retort and the silence and separation that followed was filled with resentment and hatred.
Elaine arrived at the docks of Coumarine early the next day. It wasn't to return to Castelia though. Instead, her father had purchased a one-way ticket to the faraway Brava region, where he had family and friends who would help her start a new life for herself. Whether she continued her studies or became a Pokémon trainer was up to her. The man implored his child to not hate her mother, claiming that she was only worried for her children and only wanted what was best for her. The teenager stated her disbelief of the statement and commented on there being no point in trying. Regardless of her negative answer, the parent and child held a tearful farewell as she boarded the ship.
The next week or so flew by for the sixteen year old. Her aunt, uncle and cousin welcomed her warmly when she arrived, offering a spare room in their home for her use as long as she was living in Brava. When they asked what she planned to do, the young woman stated that she would visit the region's lab and register as a Pokémon trainer. Fortunately, despite her sudden and quick move, her registration went smoothly and the newly anointed trainer left the labs with two Pokémon to call her own. Her childhood dream becoming a reality and unwilling to burden her aunt and uncle too much, she announced that she would leave to travel the region as a trainer.
With the support of her extended family and a night's worth of preparations, the fledgling trainer set out for her journey the next day, inspired and invigorated by her newfound true freedom.

Additional Info:On top of her medical studies and Pokémon training, Elaine took a keen interest in ancient history in school. Ruins fascinate her, though she's never explored anything besides the Relic Castle in Unova's route 4.
Her favorite meals include stir fried rice, chicken alfredo and sushi. She primarily drinks water and coffee. She hates peas and can't stand carbonated beverages like soda.
Elaine's main form of humor is often dry and sarcastic, though she never really means any offense. She also appreciates puns and other forms of wordplay despite not being very good at it herself.
While spending a good chunk of her life buried in studies and activities has made Elaine intelligent, it has also left her prone to being a bit naive at times. She works hard to remedy this, but her introversion often gets in the way.
