Here are some answers to questions people have asked or are likely to ask:
General FAQ
Q: Who is the main admin on this site?
A: That would be me, Satori. That said, Pap and Witch are also admins, and while Akira is a mod she can also answer most questions you might have.
Q: What is this site?
A: It's a roleplaying site. A Pokemon roleplaying site, based on an original region. Go on a journey around the region, collect badges, challenge the Pokemon League, fight bad guys, all the usual.
Q: Is the Brava Region based on any real-world location?
A: Nothing specific. The general layout of the region was inspired by the east coast of the United States, with mountains to the west, coastline to the east, and barrier islands offshore. However, everything in-between is original. The intent was not to replicate a location as a region, but to create a region full of amazing places.
Q: Do I have to start at the lab?
A: Nope. It can be assumed that you have already been by. In fact, we would prefer it if you did that. The lab threads would pile up very fast.
Q: Do my Pokemon have to come from the lab? Like, can I say my character had them before they started on their journey?
A: That's perfectly fine. Just as a note, unless you specify in your history that you obtained your Pokemon some other way, it will be assumed that they came from the lab.
Q: Can I find Pokemon not on the area's spawn list in that area?
As a general rule, no. You might be able to find different Pokemon during events or missions, but in regular catching threads, what you see is what you get.
Q: What Pokemon can I start with?
A: Look over here.
Q: Why can't I start with any of the uncommon/rare Pokemon?
A: Balance concerns, mostly. Many single-stage Pokemon are far stronger than base evolution Pokemon, as are Pokemon like Scyther or Gligar that gained evolutions in later generations. Other Pokemon may be on there because they're not particularly common in the wild, but we did not see a need to put them on the Rare list. Pokemon that are over-picked (none at the time of site opening) may also end up here eventually.
Rare Pokemon cannot be picked because they're rare. Shocking, I know.
Q: Does this site run on liquid time?
A: The only way we could reasonably get away with not running the site on liquid time would be to restrict everyone to one thread at a time per character. We would rather not do either. So yes, it does.
Q: Can I have one of cosplay versions of Pikachu?
A: There's honestly not much point. It's a neat gimmick, but that's all it is. What you can do, however, is purchase a Special Move to teach a normal Pikachu the moves exclusive to each of its costumes; Meteor Mash, Icicle Crash, Draining Kiss, Electric Terrain or Flying Press. However, this comes under the stipulation that, if you evolve them, they will lose said move(s).
Q: What about Eternal Flower Floette?
A: EF Floette is, for all intents and purposes, regarded as a one-of-a-kind Pokemon. As far as I'm concerned, it still canonically belongs to AZ, so...in short, the answer is no. Also, unlike the cosplay Pikachu, its unique move is exclusive to that particular form. As such, I'm sorry say you will not be able to teach Ruin of Light to a normal Floette.
Q: What about Ultra Beasts?
A: At the current time, Ultra Beasts do not exist in the Brava Region. However, stay tuned, we're not going to forget about them entirely.
Character FAQ
Here's a few character questions, to give you additional guidelines for what you can and can't do with your characters.
Q: Can I make a Pokemorph?
A: No. They would be a nightmare to balance and regulate, not to mention to write into the setting.
Q: What about psychic abilities?
A: Psychic abilities are allowed on a case by case basis. If you want to make a psychic, please specify any and all powers the character has in their profiles. If you are unsure, drop one of us a PM with your proposed abilities first.
Q: Aura users?
A: No. Aura is too vaguely defined in Pokemon canon, and has too much potential to be abused.
Q: Can my character be exceptionally strong, physically fit, etc?
A: Yes they can. However, like psychic abilities, we would like to know what they are capable of in their profile. Generally these will be more freely acceptable than psychics, but we still want to know for record-keeping purposes. Also note that we reserve the right to ask you to scale a character back if they seem too unreasonably strong or excel in too many areas.
Q: Can my character carry a weapon?
A: Generally no, however we have a specific rule for that. Gladius members and Police are the most common exceptions we will allow, however if you have a specific reason why your character should carry, ask us first.
Q: What about special tech? Snag Machine, Team Rocket-esque mecha, etc.?
A: Ask us first, and detail any special tech your character has in your profile. While we will allow it within reason, some of it will require special rules on obtaining permission to use them on other players, etc.
Do note also that we reserve the right to put a cap on the character types above if we feel that we're getting too many.
Q: Can I make a double character, a la the Twins or Sempai/Kouhai pairs in the games?
A: You can! However, for gameplay purposes such as obtained Pokemon, events, etc, they will be treated as a single character. If you want twice as many Pokemon, rewards, etc, they need to be two separate characters and maintained as such.
Q: I have a character idea with a dark and tragic past, who at the lowest point in their life discovered they had special abilities and-
A: This is mostly covered in the rules, but it bears repeating here: don't go overboard. We reserve the right to ask any player to tone a character down, or to deny them if they are too obviously an Author's Darling.
